Collaboration Between the Post Office and Mashhad Municipality for Smart City Development

The Khorasan Razavi Post Office and Mashhad Municipality have launched a joint collaboration to develop smart city infrastructures. This cooperation includes the integration of spatial data, particularly postal codes, with the municipality’s geographic information layers, as well as the establishment of shared web services. The main objective is to enhance accuracy in urban and postal services, create integrated services for citizens, and provide a foundation for smarter decision-making in urban management.

Navid Zehdi, Secretary of the Mashhad Smart City Supreme Council, announced the beginning of this partnership between the Khorasan Razavi Post Office and Mashhad Municipality, aimed at strengthening communication infrastructures and data governance in this metropolis.

According to Shahrara News, this collaboration is defined within the framework of promoting a data-driven ecosystem and expanding smart urban services. During joint sessions, both parties reviewed existing capacities and reached agreements on the implementation of several key areas.

One of the most important aspects of this memorandum is the integration of location-based data. Within this framework, the exchange and merging of key data such as the “postal code” — the main pillar of the national addressing system — with the municipality’s Geographic Information System (GIS) layers, has been placed on the agenda. This synergy is expected to significantly enhance the accuracy of urban, postal, and even emergency services.

Another area of cooperation is the launch of shared web services. This initiative, by creating a secure and stable connection between the systems of both organizations, will enable mutual and integrated use of data and services. Such interconnectivity will not only improve the speed and quality of service delivery but also provide the foundation for smarter and more precise decision-making in urban management.

Zehdi emphasized: “The realization of this memorandum is not only an important step toward developing Mashhad as a smart city but also serves as a model for synergy among service-providing organizations in other metropolises across the country.”
